Quarantine!

That's the sign that should posted outside my office and home right now. We were struck down by some virus early this week. Half my work group has been out sick for multiple days. I started feeling symptoms late sunday and by monday morning my sore throat, tiredness, and aches and pains were in full effect. I still had hope that I could kick it and thought the others were working outside. Come tuesday, cue the sinus congestion, sneezing, and occasional cough. I then found out that I was the only one who made it to the work from my row of cubbies. Even birdman, who never takes sick days had been out monday and tuesday. I told the higher ups that I would be taking the rest of the week off using vacation time since I had so much time. By wednesday, everything had kicked it up a notch. I didn't get a full night of sleep thanks to my ailments. I was either in bed or on the couch all wednesday. I knew that my cough was the result of draining sinuses, so I was hesitant to take anything to stop it. But trying to sleep last night, I had it with the non-stop cough and pulled out the big guns. I had some ancient prescription "do not drive or operate heavy machinery" type cough medicine. I had barely one dose and boy did it do the trick. I don't think I coughed once at night and was able to mostly sleep through the night. When I did wake up in the middle of the night, I felt very relaxed (no aches/pains) and don't have to cough. It was a lovely and restful 14 hour sleep. Today I'm feeling less congested, but everything else is still present. The cough has kicked it up a notch. I have a doc appointment tomorrow so hopefully I'll be on the road to recovery by that time.

Den of sickness

I've have been going through a few weeks of multiple sicknesses. I've set a personal record for the length of use of antibiotics. I have yet to have that pivotal day of feeling better during this current round of antibiotics. My current ailment is a sinus infection and today was the day of the beginning of the yummy cough from the fluid draining into my lungs. Good times.

It's funny how being sick makes you stupid. Today was no different. I set off to the fabric store to check out and most likely purchase fabric for a dress I was going to make. Except I left the vintage pattern at home and made no notes on how much fabric I'd need. I found fabric I liked but I'll save a return trip for when I'm feeling fully functional and clear headed.

Hopefully I'll be back on my feet and ready for action the next post.

The Toxic Avenger

I haven't been really sick since November 2006. That all came to an end this week. Sunday I had a sore throat. I didn't think much of it because it could have been anything. Then it got worse on Monday and by Tuesday my sinuses were evacuating. I made an appointment with the doc and sadly cancelled my field work for the week. I was out sick Wednesday, half a day Thursday, and now all day Friday. I now have a delightful cough and sound like Kathleen Turner. My half a day at work yesterday was spend decontaminating my desk, catching up on emails, voicemails, and mail. I did notice a couple other people coughing in the office and heard a lot of "You are sick too!" or "You sound horrible!" By 3 pm, I wasn't sure why I was even in the office since I was feeling so poorly. So by 4 pm I was on my way home to get my prescriptions. It's 11:30 and I've been up for an hour and I'm ready for a nap. But yet I'm planning on spending part of Sunday looking for turtles. I must be delirious!
